FAQ

FAQS

Here are answers to some common questions.

  • Do you accept insurance?

This is the big question. The short answer is no.

I am an out-of-network provider, meaning I do not accept in-network benefits. Although, I DO accept insurances that have out-of-network benefits.

Before our first session, my team collects all relevant information from you, and helps to verify your benefits. We will then explain your benefits/your responsibilities before the initial visit, and before any payment is accepted.

  • Why don't you accept in-network benefits?

The second biggest question. Here is why:

I became a physical therapist because I LOVE human performance, I HATE being in pain, and I WANT to share my knowledge my passion with the world. We are generally not educated about our bodies in school... and that's ridiculous. I want to help people live better lives, and empower them to take control of their bodies.

What the world doesn't tell pre-PT students is that low reimbursement rates from insurance companies for physical therapy services have forced in-network clinics to schedule multiple patients at one time JUST to make ends meet. This leads to passionate therapists who see 3-7 (what I've personally experienced) patients at a time, and who burn out quickly because of the high volume, constant mental effort to manage diferent people at the same time, and boat loads of paperwork to tell insurance exactly what happened during each session so that they cover services.

There is no chance I can make as meaningful as an impact to all of my patients' lives in this kind of environment. I need quality 1-on-1 time with my patients so that I can teach them how to move, educate them about the healing process, and motivate/empower them through their journeys.

I don't accept in-network benefits because the services I want our time together to feel highly personal, and I want you to feel seen and heard throughout the entire session. I believe that with more quality time with a good physical therapist, we can achieve your end goal much faster.

Sorry, I can rant about this for a long time....

  • Does therapy with you cost more in TOTAL than using my in-network benefits?

    Maybe, but maybe not.

We live in a world where so many people pay premiums for health insurance, only to have extremely high deductibles that they must pay out of pocket FIRST before even getting covered!

And again like I said above, you are paying high rates to hit that deductible, all while receiving treatment that may look like this:

    1. working 1-on-1 with a QUALIFIED therapist for 10-15 minutes tops.

    2. proceeding to work with an aide or tech (usually with an undergrad degree and preparing to go INTO physical therapy school) for the rest of the treatment.

    3. even when you're working with the physical therapist, they have other patients on his/her mind, and it may be VERY difficult to give true undivided attention.

    4. Wasting valuable time on ice/heat (are you really going to use 1/4 of your time on something you can do at home??)

    ----------OR----------

You can pay out of pocket or use out of network benefits to receive:

    1. Working with a therapist without other duties in mind, allowing brain power to give the BEST and most individualized attention you'll ever receive from a medical professional.

    2. Working with the qualified therapist for a full 60 minutes of care.

    3. Constant updates to plan of care due to better therapist time management.

    ----------------------

I have worked in an in-network facility for 4 years now, and I can tell you now that we are incentivized to see people 2-3 times per week for 6-8 weeks. This is also what a doctor may tell you without running a full diagnostic on you.

Imagine paying 200 dollars (common for high deductible plans) a session for 2-3 times a week for 6-8 weeks. That's a cost of anywhere between 2400 and 4800 dollars, all for about 180-240 mintues of your therapists time. Plus, you probably didn't hit your deductible yet.

Now, imagine paying 200 dollars to see a therapist for 60 minutes a week, and you get better in 6-8 weeks. Thats a cost of 1200-1600 dollars for 360-540 minutes with your therapist.

Which one do you think accomplishes more?

This assumes a high deductible plan. If you have great in-network coverage where you don't pay a dime for care, then I obviously encourage you to use what you're paying for. But, if you are not receiving the attention you feel you need to get better, then I encourage you to seek a physical therapist that can give you what you need, and most of the time, that person may be out-of-network due to the reasons I addressed in another FAQ.

    Again, sorry for the rant.

  • What type of payment methods do you accept?

I accept cash, check and credit. You can also pay with your FSA/HSA cards.

  • Where are you treating?

I have connections with gyms all throughout morris/hudson county that I rent space from. Depending on your location, we can use any of these locations.

The towns I treat in are:

    Lyndhurst NJ

    Chatham NJ

    Hoboken NJ

    Astoria NY

I will mostly be treating out of Kratos Elite Performance Training at 222 Stuyvesant Ave in Lyndhurst New Jersey.

I also offer hybrid (both in-person and virtual) options (my favorite), as well as home care and truly virtual options.

  • What does the hybrid option look like?

My true philosophy about how physical therapy works is as follows:

I believe physical therapists are NOT  magicians that help you get out of pain. I do believe that physical therapists are GUIDES who help people understand pain, understand the healing process, and understand the expectations of a course of treatment.

I don't believe in seeing patients 2-3 times a week for 8 weeks. I believe in seeing someone 2-4 times a month (if that) and guiding them properly virtually the other days of the month. I hope that by the end of that month, you understand how to continue the rehab ON YOUR OWN if you're not feeling 100% better yet. Otherwise, hopefully you're feeling great and our work together is done!

It is my true goal to make people as independent as possible, and I want to empower people with knowledge so that they know how to handle future injuries.

A hybrid system would look like this:

    1. figuring out tactically how many in-person treatments are needed per week based on your goals, habits, and expectations.

    2. from there, I curate a monthly online plan for you to follow, where once per week we check in virtually as well to make sure things are going smoothly. I also use programs online to keep you accountable to your exercises and plan.

    3. Using my exercise library of videos that explain form and purposes of all assigned exercises so you feel comfortable doing exercises even when I'm not there. My platform also allows you to take videos of. your form and message me so I can review when I have time.

I really believe in this system. Please don't hesitate to ask me more questions about it!

  • What projects are you working on?

Anyone who knows me knows my true love is tennis. Oh, and my girlfriend I guess.

I am planning on opening slots for tennis players so that I can curate very individualized performance programs to help them shred up the competition.

    My programming takes into account:

    1. indivudual differences in body anatomy

    2. range of motion/strength deficits individual to each person

    3. specific training blocks to improve tennis specific movements

I am super excited to release this soon. If you know any tennis players interested, please feel free to give them my contact information!
